Making Bagels
Last week I made bagels for the first time. I was busy making bagels and not taking pictures so I can’t post pictures, but the exercise was so much fun and the results were so good that I expect I will be repeating it again very soon. WOW! That was a run on sentence. I’ll actually need to work on the recipe a bit, because they made a New York style bagel. They were fantastic as far as New York bagels go, but I grew up in Cincinnati and I like my bagels denser with a slightly crustier crust. I was rather concerned about the boiling part. I ended up using my largest frying pan, keeping it on high the whole time and I could see when it was time to flip them over. I than drained them for a minute on a towel before placing them on the baking pan. I spritzed them with water and baked them. About 5 minutes into the baking time I spritzed them again. After making a batch of plain I made a batch with applesauce, banana and raisins. They ended up being too sweet for me to eat.
